Mignon is our 3-year-old Shih Tzu-Poodle-Corgi mix. If you’ve ever met him, you’ll know he’s the most gentle soul who just wants to befriend everyone he sees (although he can be a little scaredy-cat at times!).
Heartbreaking news is that he has suddenly become extremely unwell over the past few days, shedding a lot of blood through his stool, and his body is breaking down on him. He’s currently in the ICU on strong painkillers and undergoing various tests. His bloods are not great, and we’re not sure he will make it.
The vets suspect he has AHDS (Acute Hemorrhagic Diarrhea Syndrome). It’s been shocking to see a healthy dog brought to the brink of death in just half a day, with severe dehydration, shock, and dangerously low blood pressure. When the hospital called to say he was suddenly critical, we rushed there and he couldn’t even focus or recognise us—it felt like our hearts were being torn apart. But thankfully, he has passed the most dangerous stage and is now slowly showing signs of improvement. He is receiving special nutrition through a nasal tube, and the vets are doing everything possible to save him. Surgery isn’t required, but the cost of tests and hospitalisation can increase by about £1,000 per day.
Just before this happened, we had to cancel the renewal of our pet insurance as it got too expensive due to his ACL injury, and we were still searching for a new company. Unfortunately, Mignon’s illness came at the worst possible time, meaning nothing can be covered by insurance now—even if we find a new policy, pre-existing conditions aren’t covered.
If you have anything you can contribute, even as little as £10, it would mean the world to us. Mignon is family, only 3 years old, and we desperately want to do everything we can to bring him back home.
Please help us save Mignon so he can run freely in the park near our home, be happy, and enjoy a warm, loving Christmas with us. If you cannot contribute financially, please join us in sending your thoughts and prayers for little Mignon.
