Our sweet 7 year old dog, Midnight was hit by a vehicle in our neighborhood on Monday evening. Just hearing her screams as we saw it happen was a very traumatic experience for our family. Her legs were mangled, exposing her to the bone but thankfully no internal injuries. After we rushed her to the ER we learned that she had no broken bones but extensive degloving of both hind legs along with some ligament damage. Initial reports were recommending amputation of her right leg. We received a second opinion which gave us hope of saving her leg. We have chosen this option but it requires daily wound managment with sedation at a vet clinic. Minimum period is for about 4-5 weeks. Needless to say this is a very costly treatment option with the hope of saving her leg. Our costs have already reached over $2500 but will increase daily with her wound care treatments. Estimates are about $220 a day for her treatments which include laser therapy and possibly surgery down the road. We are thankful to have found a new low cost but high quality care clinic that is actually about 50% less than other quotes from our area.
Midnight is a very social dog we have had since she was five weeks old. Her favorite activity is her daily walks and chasing the ball at the local park. She means the world to us as a family member. She has been a huge source of comfort for us through some very trying times we have experienced in the last few years. We are hoping and praying that her healing will be enough to save her leg and perhaps allow her to resume some of her favorite activities again someday soon.
