Help Midnight Stand Again

Donation protected
On Saturday April 17th at 10:30pm MST, my brother Robert (who was visiting me in Arizona from North Carolina) received a call that I could overhear from my bedroom. It was his neighbor who said "she is just laying in the street and not moving". Mind you, this is now 1:30am EST.

She had been hit by a car and was not moving.

He found the next flight leaving just out of AZ just 1.5 hours later and took a red eye home. This is a dog who has been part of our family for 12 years and if anyone knows me and my previous dog Almond Joy, knows my siblings are willing to do whatever it takes for them to not only survive, but prosper.

The next bit is of text/communication correspondence is meant only so you can truly try to understand the depth of distress we have all had but also to give some understanding that these are our children. Although furry, we are willing to do anything and everything possible for them.

At 11:09pm MST 4/17 as Robert is at the airport: "OMG he says the leg is mangled and even brought up putting her to sleep. Wtf. Said I could take her to a specialist surgeon tomorrow when I arrive and see we he could do. Can't believe this happened. She's all alone going through this. I can't take it."

At 9:40am PST 4/18 Robert is at the hospital: "I'm at the hospital waiting to be able to go in. She has to have one leg amputated and the other is dislocated. Haven't seen her yet. It's bad Ash."

X-Rays were taken. It truly looks non repairable.

At 11:46am PST 4/18: "The other hip is completely dislocated. They said there is no chance she ever walks again and want me to put her down. I'm dying."

From here I ask if there is anything other than her hips that are an issue (internal bleeding, other organs affected, etc). There isn't! So naturally we are getting her a wheelchair. DUH. This girl is a fighter! Robert goes to a specialist in Charlotte, NC to find out additional options and we get more hopeful news.

At 1:11pm EST yesterday 4/12: "Spoke to the surgeon. She gave me some hope at least. Said she will use plates and screws to try and piece the 3 breaks together in the 1 leg. Then will have to do that same hip surgery on the other leg where they chop off the head/ball of the femur so that there's no connection to the hip. So now she won't have any bone connecting her legs to her hips. But she said if we can get her to heal these bones, she may be able to hold herself up to pee in about 3 months. That gives her some form of quality of life at least."

She went through her 1st surgery on her 1st leg yesterday after 5 hours and had surgery on her other leg today 4/13. She has been a trooper for both. She now has 3 weeks of physical training ahead of her, and a mountain of bills.

I love this platform for people who feel in the moment to be able to give what they are capable of. Whether that financial, love, support or even extending it to the social media universe. I post this truly without expectation, but know even the smallest gestures can mean the most.
