On Thursday evening (1/15) we found Midnight in a catatonic state, his breathing was labored and he was covered in his own throw up and poop. We rushed him to the emergency vet where they put him in an oxygen tank as Blake signed CPR/ DNR releases and started lifesaving treatment.

Once they were able to run his bloodwork, they were able to rule out heart failure, thyroids issues, or anything with the lungs.

Further tests found that his liver was not producing the necessary clotting factors, so they gave him a plasma transfusion, high dose of vitamin k shot and medication. He responded well to this treatment as his liver numbers started to drop. Cats should be at around 130, Midnight's levels were at 9100. These have dropped since, though still high at 5800.

At this point he was more responsive, was walking around bit, and could maintain his own body heat without aggressive heat support.

Our biggest concern now is with is kidneys. As of 7:00am this morning, we got a call that he is not responding well to that treatment. His levels have increased from a 3.2 to a 6, a normal value would be less than 2.

Midnight has already been hospitalized for 2 days, and is expected to stay longer to continue his treatment. The vets shared that livers regenerate and heal quicker than kidneys, so there is still a chance those kidney levels can decrease. At the same time, they are running more tests to be sure there's not an element to his case that they are missing.

Although there is no clear diagnosis or cause, they are treating his case as anaphylaxis, but they are also considering chronic kidney disease or cancer. Our options for treatment are limiting and the worst case scenario is becoming more of a reality.

Midnight has been by Blake's side for 9 years. He's been his best friend and companion through so many milestones; career changes, the pandemic, the birth of his daughter, Ava, and imagining a life without him has been monumentally difficult.

We're doing everything in our power to give Midnight the care and chance at life that he deserves. We know that this is a difficult time for everyone, but are calling on our community and loved ones to support Blake through this difficult and unexpected time.
