Help Micknai Become a Certified Midwife
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Micknai Arefaine, and I’m training to become a direct-entry midwife through the Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery. The program follows the JJ Way model, an innovative approach developed by Jennie Joseph to eliminate racial and economic disparities in childbirth. I expect to graduate in 2027 as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)—a credential that certifies my expertise in providing comprehensive, community-based maternity care, primarily outside of hospital settings. I’m reaching out for your support to help cover living expenses, out-of-state travel to clinic sites, and healthcare costs so I can fully commit to this journey.
About Me
My journey into birthwork began in 2020 when I completed training as a doula and community perinatal health worker, followed by certifications in lactation support and neonatal resuscitation. Now, I’m expanding my skills through midwifery to provide safe, supportive, and empowering care for families in the communities I serve.
Program Commitment
The Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery is an intensive program. Each week, I spend about 84 hours on call under my preceptors—licensed midwives who guide my clinical training. During on-call hours, I assist with home and birth center births, prenatal care, and postpartum visits. Additionally, I dedicate 20 hours each week to coursework, which equips me with the skills and knowledge to deliver holistic, culturally aware care and become a licensed midwife.
Why I Need Your Help
With the demands of this program, working full-time isn’t feasible. This campaign will help cover:
Living expenses to maintain stability while I study full-time.
Out-of-state travel to clinic sites for required hands-on experience.
Healthcare costs to stay well throughout this rigorous program.
How Your Contribution Helps
$25 covers essential clinical supplies.
$100 aids travel to out-of-state clinics.
$250 supports healthcare and wellness needs.
$500+ contributes to living costs .
Gratitude and Giveback
I’m deeply grateful for any support, whether a donation or by sharing this campaign. I’ll keep supporters updated on my journey and look forward to giving back through accessible, respectful maternity care.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me!
