As many of you know, my mother, Michelle (“Mickie”) Fowler, has been fighting a long and difficult health battle since developing a severe pressure sore in July 2024. What began as a single wound has turned into a cascade of complications — multiple surgeries, infections, and challenges to improvement — leaving her extremely fragile and in need of far more care than she can receive at home.
Despite hospice support, her current home care is not enough. She is suffering from severe malnutrition, and there is no one in the home who can consistently ensure she is getting the protein and calories she desperately needs. She also must be repositioned every two hours to prevent worsening of her stage-4 pressure wounds but the people in the home are unable or unwilling to do this reliably. Her hospice case manager was very clear: without 24/7 skilled care, she is at high risk for infection and further decline.
The good news is that Mom’s mind is strong. She is alert, hopeful, and wants to keep fighting. Physically, however, her body cannot continue to battle without the level of care she requires.
After many conversations with hospice, case managers, and senior care specialists, the safest and most affordable option is to move her into a Board and Care home with 24/7 nursing support.
We are currently looking at two possible locations — one in Claremont CA and one in Chino — both offering a private room and round-the-clock RN care.
The cost of this care is $6,500 per month, and she will likely need 6–12 months in this environment to stabilize, rebuild her strength, improve her nutrition, and allow her wounds the best chance to heal. Our hope is that with sustained care over this period, she will be strong enough to come home again.
My parents have some income and our family is contributing what we can, but we cannot cover this alone. Any support you can offer will go directly toward giving my mom the care she needs and deserves during this critical time.
My mother has spent her entire life loving, serving, and supporting her community. Now she needs her community to lift her up in return.
All funds raised will go directly to her Board and Care home costs.
Thank you for your love, generosity, and prayers during this difficult time.
