Our Dad, Mickey Kent, was diagnosed with an incredibly rare brain tumor (one of only a few cases known world wide) that has led him to have many medical challenges. He suffers from right sided weakness which has led him to struggle with walking, speech, and other daily activities. Over the past few years the tumor has increased his challenges and his motor skills have declined more.

Our Dad has always had a good outlook on life and has been very determined to keep his life as stable as possible. He has gone to OT, PT and speech therapies multiple times a week for many months. So it goes without saying that he is a great Dad, Husband and Son.

When COVID hit he had to go on medical leave and now disability as unfortunately his tumor makes him incredibly high risk. After a year and half of taking all the precautions possible our dad and grandma (his mom) caught COVID in October. Luckily both were able to beat it but he did suffer from COVID fatigue as a result. Even while dealing with the fatigue our dad spent a lot of his time taking care of his mother as she has been in and out of hospitals. But, as a result of doing so much while dealing with covid fatigue, our dad fell down the stairs and broke two vertebrae in his neck and 3 in his lumbar spine, requiring him to undergo surgery to repair them with plates and screws.

After a few weeks of him being in the hospital on Christmas Eve he suffered from a pulmonary embolism and blood clots in his lungs. He had to undergo surgery and was set back from therapy. Overall he has been in the hospital and now rehab for over five weeks, which unfortunately meant he was unable to be home for the holidays and spent his Christmas and New Years there.

He is now finally coming home after six weeks of being in the hospital. As of now he cannot walk without assistance and requires a walker and a wheelchair. He will require extensive homecare and therapies as well as outpatient therapies. Due to the number of injuries he has we have to have many special medical equipment and make many home modifications including a hospital bed, walk in shower, stair lift and other medically necessary items that will allow him to progress and live his life as best as possible with said circumstances. Our parents live in a two story home and as of now our dad won't be able to shower until the extensive renovations can be made for his safety.

We are starting this go fund me asking for support to help with the immense cost of the modifications and extensive medical bills due to his spinal injury and brain tumor. Our dad is determined and has been working hard in therapy and we appreciate any help to make his recovery successful.
