Help My Parents Through a Medical and Financial Crisis
Hi, this is the kids of Mickey and Susan Whisler, and were starting this GoFundMe to support my parents during a very difficult time.
Back in April, my dad stepped on a rusted nail while doing yard work. As a diabetic, he’s had a very hard time healing from the injury. Unfortunately, the wound became severely infected, and he was recently admitted to the hospital, where he had surgery to remove the infection. A biopsy was done to make sure the infection didn’t reach the bone—we’re still waiting on those results.
During all of this, we also found out that my dad has only 10% blood flow in his right leg and 40% or less in his left. Since the injury is on his right foot, doctors placed a stent to restore blood flow to 100% and help the healing process.
Due to his condition, my dad has been unable to work for months. He was the sole provider, as my mom is a lung cancer survivor and unable to work because of her own health issues. With no income coming in, they’ve exhausted their savings just trying to pay bills and keep from losing their home and car.
We’ve done everything we can to support them, but we’ve reached a point where we need to ask for help. We’re unsure when or if my dad will be able to return to work, and the medical bills—and regular household expenses—continue to pile up. Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. All funds will go directly towards medical bills and living expenses to help keep my parents afloat while my dad recovers.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support during this tough time.
Update On My Dad
The biopsy results showed the disease had spread to the bone, which led to the amputation of his second toe and removal of some surrounding bone in his foot. During surgery, the doctor noted there wasn’t as much blood flow in his foot as they had hoped, so we’re currently uncertain how well the healing process will go.
Not long after surgery on June 25, my dad suffered a stroke. Then, just days later, he went into atrial fibrillation (AFib)and has since been given a new diagnosis related to that. These complications mean that his recovery will be much longer and more difficult than we originally anticipated.
The hospital is already looking to release him soon, which means my mom will be taking on the responsibility of caring for him at home during this challenging recovery.
We are in the process of applying for disability benefits, but we don’t yet know how long that will take. In the meantime, any donations would be deeply appreciated to cover medical bills and household bills.
Again, Thank you all for the continued love, support, and prayers!
