Hi,

My name is Naomi and I'm writing this in support of my friend and neighbour, Mick, to allow him to remain in his home whilst facing terminal cancer.

Mick, until very recently shared his life and home with his dear friend, Amanda Etherington. Mick and Amanda moved to Tasmania together as friends back in 2017. Mick was diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome, an incurable cancer in 2020. Mick proceeded with treatment, knowing that his fate was inevitable but still had the will to keep fighting. Now, 6 years later, he has hit the wall he knew would always come and with the treatment becoming unresponsive, has been told by doctors to prepare for the end.

During these past 6 years, Amanda supported him as his registered carer, helping him through his medical hardship. Earlier this year, Amanda fell to a similar fate when she was diagnosed with cancer whilst undergoing brain surgery. Within just a few months, Amanda sadly passed.

Mick not only lost his best friend and carer but is now also on the verge of losing the home they shared in Scamander.

Mick's lease ends in 5 weeks and housing on the East Coast is a real struggle. There are no other affordable options available and, although a new lease has been confirmed, he simply can't afford the rent, along with day-to-day living costs, on his own. Homelessness is becoming a very real outcome, a terrifying fate for anyone but having to do this when you suffer stage 4 cancer is unfathomable.

The last thing anyone should have to worry about while facing terminal illness is whether they will be able to keep a roof over their head.

Your donation, no matter how small, will help give Mick some security and peace of mind during an incredibly challenging chapter of his life.

Funds raised will go towards his rent, helping him remain safely and comfortably housed for as long as possible. Any funds remaining after his passing will be donated to Cancer Council.
