HELP MICK aka "DQ MAN" ON HIS ROAD TO RECOVERY!

Donation protected

Mick Pierce, or as most everyone around Papillion knows him - "DQ Man" - is a great friend of ours. He is dealing with a big health issue right now and his family needs some help. Mick was raised in Papillion since age 4 - he attended PLHS and is a well-known for satisfying everyone's sweet tooth! If you love ice cream...you know Mick & Megan. Mick has been a generous supporter in the community - often contributing to local sport's teams, the Papillion Police Department, many schools for yearly restaurant nights, and various other organizations. He is a great guy and has a heart that is willing to help anyone. We want Mick back on his feet and out of the hospital!

On April 30th Mick was hospitalized at Bellevue Medical Center with a septic blood stream infection that attacked the valves of his heart causing them to become infected and perforated. Mick was near death and placed on a ventilator right away. The doctors knew his situation was dire and wanted him moved to midtown's University of Nebraska Medical Center. On May 2nd Mick was life-flighted to the med center via helicopter to receive treatment to get him healthy enough for a heart valve replacement. A $42k trip across town! He spent many days in the CVICU until May 6th when he finally was able to get his mitral and aortic heart valves replaced. He spent multiple weeks in ICU. On May 17th Mick went into ventricular tachycardia, which required him to be shocked back into a normal heart rhythm. In addition, he then had to have a pacemaker and internal defibrillator placed on May 22nd.
Mick was able to come home from May 26-June 5th, but was then hospitalized again on June 5th due to a low hemoglobin and had to receive 4 units of blood and is still unable to leave because he needs to be on a heparin drip so his mechanical valves do not cause him to develop blood clots.
Mick is on day #37 of hospital life. Megan is with him daily until she has to work, but unfortunately she is out of all paid time off. Their days are long and have gotten quite boring, but they have not been able to get his numbers where they need to be. Hospital life is tough, but the lengthy visit is causing medical bills to grow substantially. Mick & Megan have two kids and want to get back to being a family - at home. I am hoping with some financial help they can try to stress a little less and focus on getting out of a hospital gown & back to real life. This health scare is definitely dictating life right now and instead of focusing on the mounting medical bills...they need to focus on Mick's healing.  As small business owners, they thought they had all their bases covered. They took out an Aflac policy to deal with situations like this, but 3 weeks into Mick being sick, Megan filed a claim with Aflac only to find out the critical illness and ICU rider they thought they had purchased was never written by the insurance agent. What should have paid them $20k-$30k ended up paying out $570. They are trying to get to the bottom of this but with Mick still hospitalized it’s been tough!
Please consider helping this great family...if nothing else, keep Mick and his family in your prayers! Mick needs to get back to what he loves and everyone misses seeing him at his store.
Thank you for your support - I know Mick & Megan will be so appreciative.
