Hi my name is Sharon and my sister is Michelle.
We are reaching out to ask for your help for my sister, Michelle Leake, whose life changed forever during the devastating wildfires in Spain.
Michelle has lived in Spain for more than 20 years. She has always worked hard, lived independently, caring for elderly people in the area.
On the day of the wildfire, Michelle was working as a carer for an elderly lady in the village of Bédar. As the fire spread rapidly, they tried to escape by car, but the road ahead had already been cut off by the advancing flames.
Circumstances meant they had to leave their car and as Michelle helped the lady out of the vehicle, a fireball swept towards them, leaving them with devastating injuries.
Thankfully they were pulled into another vehicle and taken to safety. They eventually reached safety where the emergency services were able to help them.
The following day, Michelle was airlifted in a life-threatening condition to the specialist burns unit at Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville, where she remains under the care of an incredible medical team.
Michelle has suffered burns to more than 40% of her body. She is currently heavily sedated and on a ventilator while doctors do everything possible to give her the best chance of recovery.
The road ahead will be long, painful, and incredibly challenging.
Michelle has lost so much. The family she worked for have also suffered unimaginable losses. Our hearts as a family go out to them.
Because of the severity of her injuries, and following tragedy she has no job to return to and faces months—if not years—of treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery. At this stage, we simply don't know what financial support will be available to her.
Michelle lives alone in Canjáyar and will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. It may be a long time before anyone knows whether she will ever be able to return to the career she loved.
As a family, asking for help does not come naturally to us—and it certainly doesn't come naturally to Michelle. She has always been the one helping others, never expecting anything in return. But these are extraordinary circumstances.
We are hoping to raise funds to help cover Michelle's everyday living costs, household bills, travel expenses, rehabilitation, and any specialist care or equipment she may need throughout her recovery.
Our goal is to ease the financial burden so that Michelle can focus entirely on healing.
If you are able to donate, no matter how small the amount, it will make a genuine difference. If you are unable to donate, simply sharing Michelle's story would mean the world to us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during the most difficult time our family has ever faced.
Thank you for standing with Michelle and our family
