My name is Ariel Luna, and I am Michelle Perry’s oldest daughter. I’m reaching out during an incredibly difficult time, hoping to ask for support as my mom fights for her life.
On the morning of January 4, 2026, after completing an overnight shift, my mom came home struggling to breathe. Within a short time, her condition worsened, and at approximately 7:00 AM, she was rushed by ambulance to the hospital in acute respiratory failure.
Later that morning, she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, placed on a ventilator, and put into a medically induced coma so doctors could protect her organs and give her body the best possible chance to rest and recover. Doctors determined that she developed a severe respiratory infection that progressed into pneumonia, complicated by pulmonary edema, which caused fluid to build up in her lungs and made breathing extremely difficult. As her illness progressed, the strain on her body affected other organs, and her kidneys temporarily stopped functioning properly. Because of this, doctors began dialysis as a supportive measure while closely monitoring her recovery.
Michelle remains critically ill in the ICU. Her condition is serious, and we are taking things hour by hour, deeply grateful for her medical team and every sign of stability as they continue life-saving care.
Michelle is deeply loved by her family. She is an amazing, hardworking, and loving woman, and this illness came suddenly and without warning, changing everything in a matter of hours.
n March of 2016, our family experienced a devastating loss when my only brother and youngest sibling passed away at just 16 years old. His death deeply affected all of us, especially my mom, and had a lasting impact on her heart and overall health.
Just 30 days before this medical emergency, my mom began a new full-time job that included health insurance. Because of a required waiting period, that coverage does not begin until March, leaving her uninsured at the time of this crisis.
Alongside the emotional weight of this experience is a reality many families quietly face. Like many working adults, my mom worked steadily and planned carefully for everyday life to make ends meet. When a sudden, life-threatening illness occurs, the financial impact is immediate and overwhelming.
Because she was uninsured at the time of hospitalization, her care is currently being billed as self-pay. ICU care, ventilator support, dialysis, medications, and continuous monitoring come with extraordinary costs, even over a short period of time.
We are currently applying for emergency Medicare, but approval is uncertain. We are trying to raise funds to support her during and after hospitalization so she is not left with overwhelming medical debt and can meet basic living expenses during her healing process.
If my mom is able to recover, she will likely need ongoing medical care, rehabilitation, medications, and time away from work. Meanwhile, everyday expenses — rent, utilities, and basic living needs — continue.
Michelle is the mother of three daughters and grandmother to seven grandchildren, including a beloved son who is now in heaven. She is a woman of strong faith in Christ, and prayer has always been an important source of comfort in her life. As she continues to fight, prayers are deeply appreciated — for her body, her heart, her spirit, and peace for our family.
Our hope is that she can focus fully on recovery without the added weight of overwhelming financial stress. We are asking for support so that this medical emergency does not become a lasting hardship.
Any support — whether financial, prayer, or simply sharing her story — is deeply appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read and for keeping our family in your thoughts.
With gratitude,
Ariel Luna
