Spende geschützt
Michelle, Glenda, and Yvette. We have been the 3 amigas for 20 plus years. We have experienced all of life’s biggest moments: going away to college, turning 21, traveling, relocations, turning 30, marriage, babies, and everything in between. These have all been scary but exciting moments. As we prepare for our 4th decade of life, the one where we were planning to take our BIG 40th birthday girls trip to the next level, and vowed to make more time for each other as our lives are becoming less stressful with work and family, the news of our best friend’s cancer diagnosis was so unexpected.
For those who do not know Michelle, she dedicated herself to the field of education. She started her career in New York City in the field of advertising but soon after decided that her heart was not in advertising. Michelle relocated back to Texas and changed her focus into getting into the classroom, first as a middle school English teacher for Mission CISD, and is now an Assistant Principal at IDEA. She is very dedicated to her students and school family by participating in extracurricular activities, school and community events. Outside of school Michelle enjoys spending quality time with her husband Ruben and pup Loki. She is a foodie, traveler, wonderful daughter, sister, and aunt. As a best friend, Michelle has always been there for us, especially for the tough times, and of course, we have so much fun with our inside jokes and banter. Remember, 20 plus years of knowing each other!
In February Michelle was diagnosed with an invasive form of breast cancer and immediately began seeking the best health providers to get the most comprehensive plan of care available. She has been receiving her treatments at MD Anderson in Houston, with the hopes of soon getting some of her treatments done closer to home under the watchful eyes of her medical team at MDA.
Michelle has always been a strong person but seeing her go through this for the last couple of months definitely proves she is a super woman. Due to COVID, she has been having to go through all of her doctor’s appointments, procedures, and treatments alone as social distancing precautions will not allow family members to accompany her. Even in her most difficult times she is resilient and always has her beautiful smile each time. She is currently going through her first round of chemotherapy sessions which will be ongoing for about 5 months, followed by surgeries, and then radiation if everything goes according to plan. Being able to work from home has been a blessing as it allows her to travel to and from Houston for her chemo and other appointments while also allowing her some time to recuperate in the comfort of her home.
Michelle and her family have a long road ahead of them and as you all know this journey does come with a price. This woman is a very important part of so many people’s lives therefore any assistance would be greatly appreciated by Michelle, her family, and friends. Thank you.
