Help Michelle Lodato Heal from Cancer

Donation protected
Michelle is our sister and sister-in-law who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma stage 2-3 over this past Christmas. She started chemo immediately and is hopeful this will be the first step towards healing. Unfortunately, unplanned side effects have restricted her ability to drive, work, complete her Master’s degree and take care of herself and her 3-year-old daughter. We wanted to reach out, share Michelle’s story and ask for your love and support along the way.

We are hoping that the final phase of chemo will generate a good outcome, verified by a PET scan in mid-to-late July. However, once the Hodgkin’s Lymphoma treatment is complete, she will need two more surgeries—one of which is for Thyroid cancer that was discovered during the current treatment. This extended treatment period and recovery will most likely continue through the rest of this year at least.

Having two cancers at the same time, along with the complications of her treatment plans, is not how Michelle wanted to spend these young years with her daughter, Emilia. Chemotherapy, in particular, has left her unable to be the parent she has wanted to be. It is exceptionally challenging for Emilia, who sees her mom ill every day and does not know how to help.

Prior to getting diagnosed, Michelle was doing what she loved. She was working in a kindergarten classroom and teaching piano. She was also in pursuit of a Master’s in Education from Eastern Washington University. Due to the severity of side effects from chemo, Michelle has had to put her degree—and therefore future job goals—on hold. One such side effect has left Michelle with little to no feeling in her hands and feet, meaning that her love of playing piano and teaching has come to a halt. We are hoping over time that this nerve damage improves, but in some cases it can be permanent.

Michelle and Emilia live with parents/grandparents Jim and Sally. Since Michelle is unable to drive, she has needed to rely on family and friends for transportation, errands, and numerous weekly appointments including several trips to the ER due to dangerous treatment complications. Although to date many of her medical costs have been covered by insurance, she will need to start paying out of pocket for additional help to treat and recover from the cancers and side effects.

These have been the most challenging times of Michelle’s life. She is a single mom by choice, and is doing all she can to provide for her daughter. We are reaching out on behalf of Michelle, to our circle of friends, family and community for help and support. Without work for over a year, Michelle’s funds are dwindling. We are grateful for any support, financial, good vibes, or prayers. We appreciate everyone and thank you for any help that works for you.

Sincerely,

Brian and Brooke
