️ Buckeyes Helping Buckeyes ️
Alice Mong (Class of 1986, Board of Directors - The Ohio State University Alumni Association, Dean’s Advisory Board - College of Arts and Sciences, Advisory Board - OSUACHK) and Daniel Leung (Class of 1998 and 2004, Alumni Board Member - Fisher College of Business, Incumbent President and Founding Committee Member - OSUACHK) have initiated a fundraising campaign to support Michelle Huang, an Applied Mathematics junior at The Ohio State University, who is experiencing financial difficulties in covering her tuition expenses. Michelle’s father is currently involved in a court case in their hometown, and his assets are currently frozen, rendering him unable to provide financial support for her academic pursuits. With two semesters remaining towards the completion of her degree, Michelle has sought financial assistance from various departments but has encountered limited success due to her international student status.
Alice and Daniel met Michelle in person at Ohio Union in September to gain a better understanding of her situation. With the information and documents provided by Michelle, Albert Wang (Class of 2011, President of OSUACSH) and Raymond Co (Class of 1999, Secretary and Founding Committee Member of OSUACHK) have assisted in reviewing the legal case Michelle’s father is involved in.
The fundraising objective is to secure US$25,000 through GoFundMe to cover Michelle’s tuition expenses. The funds raised will be directly disbursed to the school’s Office of Business and Finance for the payment of her tuition and fees. Any funds exceeding this target will be allocated to a school fund dedicated to assisting international students experiencing emergencies. This fundraising campaign has received endorsement from our Alumni Clubs in Beijing, Chengdu, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, underscoring our unwavering commitment to supporting Michelle during this challenging period and extending our assistance to others in similar circumstances.

Below is Michelle’s letter to fellow alumni:
My name is Maoqing Huang. I am currently a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Applied Mathematics at The Ohio State University (OSU). I am on track to graduate in Summer 2026, which is three semesters from now (including Fall 2025). Over the past two years, my father has been the sole sponsor of my tuition and living expenses in the U.S. However, since 2023, our family’s financial situation has collapsed due to a legal dispute involving my father's business partner. His properties and car were auctioned by the court, and his company accounts were frozen, making it impossible for him to continue supporting my education.
In July 2025, my father was convicted in a long-standing dispute and is now awaiting public prosecution. Although he is actively working with lawyers and firmly maintains his innocence, the legal process takes time, and we currently have no income. He recently told me that the last remaining house in our hometown was just rented out, and my parents are now living with relatives.
I have been working at the campus café to cover my basic living expenses, but due to visa restrictions, I am only allowed to work 13 hours per week during the summer at a pre-tax hourly wage of $15. This barely covers groceries and daily necessities, and is far from enough to pay for tuition. The tuition for the Fall 2025 semester is approximately $25,000, which has become our most urgent financial challenge. I will continue working as much as possible to cover rent and other costs.
Therefore, I sincerely seek the support of the OSU alumni community to help me initiate a fundraising campaign that would allow me to complete the upcoming semester and stay on track with my education. I am a first-generation college student in my family, and I deeply value this opportunity. Your support means the world to me.
