Michelle Moore has spent over 33 years teaching, helping to shape the future for countless little ones. She is known for her patience and her creative approach to education, always thinking outside the box to ensure every child receives the best opportunity to learn. Most of her career was spent in Ohio, but four years ago she made the difficult decision to move to St. Augustine to be closer to her daughter and grandson. This move meant taking a significant pay cut and losing her built-up sick leave, but Michelle’s commitment to her family and her students never wavered.

Recently, Michelle suffered a severe knee injury at work when a student with behavioral issues kicked her knee, severing her meniscus and requiring surgery. Although it was covered by workers comp, she only received partial pay for the few days she was allowed to recover. Now, she is facing a double knee replacement, with surgery scheduled for March 10, 2026. Michelle carefully planned her surgery to coincide with spring break, hoping to maximize her recovery time, but she only has enough sick leave for three weeks. Her doctor recommends three months of recovery, but after the first three weeks, Michelle will be without pay.
