Help Michelle Fight Long Covid's Toll

August 2022 something changed for our family. Our mom was diagnosed with Covid-19. She eventually recovered but the long term effects it left behind have lasted until this day. She struggled for a very long time with Covid symptoms and maintaining her work life balance. Ultimately, she was diagnosed with severe long Covid symptoms and POTS syndrome, which continued to just get worse. She tried every avenue in the Pacific Northwest - regular doctor appoints, countless medicine remedy’s, acupuncture, she even was selected for a spot within the university of Washington’s special study group regarding long Covid. But nothing was helping, it honestly seemed as if things were just getting worse. Eventually even causing a stroke due to the stress her body was under - thankfully it was minor. She was struggling more than she would let anyone know. We watched her go from working her high pressure job at Swedish medical to being barely able to make herself a cup of tea. We watched our sunshine, outdoor loving mom not be able to go outside in the sun or on a bike ride or walk with her grandkids. What ultimately ended up happening is her neurological and her biological systems quit communicating with each other. A simple feet of bending over to grab a cup of coffee off the counter would cause a blackout and fainting spell that would put her out the rest of day and sometimes into the next day. Sunlight would cause her to blackout and faint. If she sat up too fast she would faint. She ultimately lost her job due to this, her way of life and most importantly her quality of life. After she exhausted all of the modern medical practices that her insurance would cover. She began doing her own research, being the brilliant nurse she is, she found an amazing opportunity through the Aviv Clinic in Florida. It was worth a shot. She arrived in Florida March 3rd and has been tirelessly pushing herself to keep up with her treatments all at her own expense. She has really started to show a positive response to her clinical treatment with Aviv. It's the little things that are most significant. She is now able to carry on a meaningful and positive conversation. She has an appetite again and she is getting stronger every day. We all are noticing the positive impact of what the medical staff in the clinic are doing for Michelle's condition. Long Covid is very brutal for some. It can be life altering and even a death sentence. Recently, after an update we found out that while progressing it just hasn’t been to the point where she can head home this month like we had originally thought. They want her to stay longer to continue her treatment and also return to Florida at a later date for follow ups. My mom gave everything due to being a frontline worker during Covid. She has always given everything she had for others. She has a long road ahead of her, but she is strong and we are hopeful to have our mom & kids’ grandma back home and healthy again with a better quality of life than what she was having.

She is the most giving, loving, caring, thoughtful person. She would never ask, so I am. I am starting this go fund me with the hope to ease some of the financial burden she has taken on herself to get well. Staying in Florida for months, daily meals, rides to and from her treatments (she is unable to drive herself to her treatment) and the Aviv clinics services have been a huge financial weight for her to carry on her own. I’ve watched her work so hard my whole life I’m saddened that this is what it has been for. Anything helps. Thank you friends & family, truly. I’ll do my best to post updates as time goes on.
