My family is seeking help for our mother, Michelle Ricker-Dokka, after recent news that her cancer has resurfaced.
Michelle was diagnosed with Vaginal Melanoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, in November of 2023. For a year, she underwent different treatments and immunotherapy. In November 2024, we got the happy news that she was in remission- though treatments still continued for another six months.
This time around, Michelle is facing a much tougher battle. It's already taking a toll on her physically, making it nearly impossible for her to work. Fatigue from the cancer itself leaves her completely wiped out for a full day or more after even a short substitute teaching assignment, and with treatment beginning in just two weeks, she won’t be able to work at all moving forward.
Michelle has applied for disability - and because her diagnosis is on the Compassionate Allowance list, she should receive it… eventually. But as many of us know, that process can take time.
We are looking to build a little cushion for our dear Mama Michelle, so that she can take the time to focus on getting herself healthy again despite the brutal reality of no income, no energy to work, and bills that never end.
This is not someone who’s comfortable asking for help. She’s independent, strong, and was doing everything possible to bridge the financial gap herself. But this diagnosis has upended everything. I am asking on her behalf because no one should have to fight cancer and financial desperation at the same time.
If you’re able to donate - any amount helps - it will go directly to essentials like groceries and out-of-pocket medical expenses while she focuses on healing. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this page with your network.
Let's help a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter and friend get through the impossible with some peace of mind.
Thank you, so much, for your kindness and support.
