We recently received the news that our beautiful Mum has relapsed with a very rare and aggressive form of lymphoma/myeloma cancer already at Stage 4 and we wanted to share a bit about her journey so far.
Mum was diagnosed with DLBCL Lymphoma in 2020. Due to its rarity, it was extremely resistant to typical lymphoma treatments. She underwent 2 rounds of 3 different types of chemotherapy - all of which did not work. These were the only options on the table until she was accepted into a clinical trial which involved 12 rounds of immunotherapy + 2 other types of chemotherapy as part of the protocol. She was lucky enough to have a few years in remission after completing the clinical trial.
All of the back to back treatments took a huge toll on her body. Mum was an in-patient for 7 months between two hospitals, ended up in ICU after the clinical trial, went through multiple cytokine storms and has had next to no immune system since. Due to this, she has not been able to work for the last 4 years, resulting in very limited income and the family helping out where they can.
This time around, the cancer has been diagnosed as rare lymphoma, with myeloma components. Unfortunately, she cannot have the same trial drug again due to the cancer presenting entirely different this time - she has been told this lymphoma is untreatable. Mum has started a standard myeloma targeted chemotherapy this week with the aim of slowing the cancer down to allow her haematology team to continue searching for something - although her doctors have said it’s a long shot.
** UPDATE: we have now been told there are no further options the hospital can provide in terms of treatment at this point in time. We will keep praying that changes but for now, the alternative treatments are the only ones we can try.
Our Mum is an incredibly strong and resilient woman who will not take no for an answer. Over the past 5 years she has dedicated a lot of time and effort into researching alternative treatments as she was advised that the chances of her relapsing were incredibly high and that it would be extremely difficult to treat if it did, and so, here we are.
Some of the alternative treatments include:
⁃ an integrative oncologist treatment plan and medication
⁃ Hyperbaric chambers
⁃ Vitamin C infusions
⁃ Spinal flow treatments
⁃ Asea water
⁃ Osteopathy & oncology massages
⁃ Vitamins & Photon
Unfortunately, there is a large cost involved with these options and the family is struggling to cover the cost on our own. We have been very hesitant in putting this out there and we are finding asking for help is one of the hardest parts, but we are also at a point where pride cannot come in the way of helping our Mumma and these treatments are a last resort at this point in time.
Mum is a fighter, we watched her go through hell and back last time and we believe in our hearts she can do it again.
She has a huge fight on her hands, which is why we’re reaching out to loved ones of Mum’s past and present, aswell as the community around all of us to ask for your help/support & prayers.
Thank you for taking the time to read x
