I'm 64 years old and living with a disability, and right now, I need to move from Lakeport to Ukiah to be closer to my son and my growing family. I currently live in an old motorhome that no parks will accept because of its age. There are leaks everywhere, and I suspect there's mold inside because I never feel well here. Every time I fix something, something else goes wrong, and it's become impossible to keep up. Living on disability means I have very little money to work with, and after working all my life until I was hurt in my late 50s, it's been hard to find help through county or state resources. My health issues cause a lot of pain, and I know that staying here is only making things worse.
If I could buy a different trailer and move to Ukiah, it would change everything. I'd be able to see my son and my grandchild more often, and I have a new grandbaby coming in late September. Being closer to family would mean I could help out with their little girl, and I'd have better access to stores and doctors. Most importantly, I'd finally have a safe, healthy place to live, which would make a huge difference for my health and daily life.
I've always tried to help others—when I was raising my kids, I took in other people's children whenever they needed a place. But now, I can't even help myself much, and it's embarrassing to admit how hard things have gotten. I'm a funky grandma who loves to sing and dance with my grandbabies (as much as my body allows), and I've tried every resource I can think of, but there's just no help out there. That's why I'm reaching out to you. I know everyone is going through tough times, but anything you can give or even just sharing my story would mean the world to me. Thank you for your kindness and support.
