Help Michele Conquer Cancer

This is my dear friend, Michele Byers. Michele is a faith warrior, a mother, a Coast Guard veteran, a daughter/sister/aunt, and a beloved friend to many.
Michele also was just diagnosed with cancer, having developed a gastrointestinal stromal tumor.
Michele is no stranger to difficult times. She has endured multiple heart surgeries and has a pace maker. She shepherded her son through his own cancer journey. She is raising her 10 year-old granddaughter on her own in an era when many would be thinking of empty nests and selfish pursuits.
Michele has run more gauntlets than most of us can imagine enduring, and yet her faith remains unshaken. She still views each stumbling block as a stepping stone, and she'll lift you up with her as she rises. She is the very best of us.
Within the span of a week from learning of her diagnosis, Michele will have undergone cat scans, a pet scan and an ultrasound. She is speed dating cancer. Next week begins the planning activities for a treatment plan.
Insurance is (predictably) already contesting pre-authorizations and coverage of these tests which are only a prelude to all the out of pocket expenses that won't be covered. In the next several months, Michele will spend well over $20,000 on medical expenses. Those are just initial expenses. It's unimaginable.
In the middle of a health crisis, no one should be worried about how they will cover mounting medical bills. Those energies should be dedicated to healing, to family and loved ones, and to hope.
Michele is a proud woman. She is the one you call at 2 am in tears. Her loyalty will break your clocks. Today, she needs us. This beautiful soul who selflessly moves mountains to help others needs a support crew to run the gauntlet ahead of her for a change.
