Help Michael Heal After a Serious Accident
In the early morning hours of June 21, Michael was riding a Citi Bike over the Pulaski Bridge in New York with his brother Steven when a sudden fall changed everything. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with serious injuries: a traumatic brain injury, multiple skull, facial, and orbital fractures, two brain bleeds, a torn vessel in the brain, optic nerve damage in his left eye, a shattered bone in his nose, a broken rib, shoulder and knee trauma, and deep abrasions across his body.
After a week in ICU and the trauma unit, he was thankfully released. Michael is now beginning the long road to recovery at home. His recovery will take time and patience. A summer he had planned to spend oil painting, Greek dancing, and catering concerts in Central Park has turned into months of focusing on healing his brain, his body, and his spirit.
Michael is on Medicaid, which will cover some of his medical care, but many of the costs he’s now facing aren’t fully covered — including follow-up visits with specialists (neurologists, ophthalmologists, and oral surgeons), vision aids, medical equipment, food, rent, and other essentials.
If you’re able to help support Michael during this difficult journey, your contribution will go directly toward easing the financial burden as he works to regain his strength and independence. Every donation helps — and he is deeply grateful for your support.
Thank you.
