Help Michael’s Family With Expenses
Donation protected
My name is Madison Ivy, I made this fundraiser for my parents Michael and Melissa Curtis
Michael is having his open heart surgery today April 21, 2021. Please pray for our family today and throughout the recovery. We all need it, but especially Michael.
On April 4, 2021, my stepdad, Michael, went to the ER at our local hospital. He was told he had a blood clot in his kidney and was transferred to Huntsville Hospital. From there, the blood clot was confirmed and numerous tests were run over the following days. The doctors found staph infection, that had infected his kidneys, spleen, liver, bowels, spots of his spine, his left foot, and some small spots on his fingers. They also discovered another blood clot in his spleen. His left foot, both legs, and his left wrist were completely swollen and he was mostly unable to move alone. After more and more tests, and a decline in his oxygen levels and overall health, he was moved to the CICU in Huntsville Hospital. From there, more tests were run, and we talked to numerous doctors and nurses. The Cardiology team told us that the infection ate through one of the valves on his heart and that open heart surgery would be the only solution.
On April 13, 2021, Day 10 in the hospital, he was transferred to University of Alabama in Birmingham Hospital. From there they have continued to do more tests and he was originally admitted into a regular room. He had a bad day yesterday and his levels dropped again.. He was moved back into the CICU there and more tests and scans have been done. We still do not know when surgery will be, they said probably next week.. After surgery, he will be in the hospital for recover for about 2 weeks and then rehab for probably about 2 months. Michael was the working parent in our household, and although his job graciously offers short term disability, it is just not the same.. Our mom, Melissa has spent every day by his side and has spent a lot of money on meals, snacks, drinks, etc. We also had been traveling to and from Huntsville multiple times and plan to travel to Birmingham as much as we are allowed. My sister, Kiera and I, have bought groceries for us and our brother by using money from other family members or our own money to try and relieve some stress from our parents.
Michael is the best person we know and we cannot believe this is happening to our family. Any help is such a blessing, and if you can’t donate, all we ask is that you pray for us. Pray harder than you ever have
