Help Michael's Family Stay Housed During Recovery

Donation protected
My family and I have been through a difficult few years. We’ve faced the loss of a child, long-term unemployment following a layoff, the financial strain of a prolonged custody battle, and the challenges of raising a young child through all of it. We had just begun to regain stability when I was diagnosed with cancer.

Cancer treatment has now concluded for the time being. I underwent daily radiation and chemotherapy, and early signs suggest the tumor has responded. As treatment ended, I developed pneumonia as a complication. While my immune system has recovered enough that I’ve avoided hospitalization so far, I am still recovering and limited in what I’m able to do at a time when stability is critical.

At the same time, we are facing the possibility of losing our housing. We are currently nearly three months behind on rent. Our landlord has asked us to leave voluntarily within a week in the hope of avoiding a formal eviction, which would make recovery even more difficult. This would mean relocating during recovery and disrupting my stepson’s schooling just after he has finally settled into a new one, a significant concern, as he is autistic and benefits greatly from consistency and routine.

Over the past year, I’ve also been building a small engineering and design-focused business, work that finally felt like a real path forward after a long stretch of setbacks. In roughly six months, that effort grew into a community of nearly 4,600 YouTube subscribers, confirming that the work was gaining real traction and could become a sustainable way to support my family. Illness, recovery, and housing instability have made it increasingly difficult to maintain that momentum without a period of stability.

I have applied for Medicaid rental assistance, and a hospital social worker believes I meet the approval criteria. However, the process can take several months, the amount is uncertain, and any assistance would arrive too late to address the immediate risk we are facing.

I’m asking for help to bridge this critical period, to keep our family housed, cover basic living and transportation costs, and preserve enough stability to recover fully and move forward. I’m aiming to raise $16,000, which would help cover approximately four months of essential expenses through recovery and the end of our lease, giving us a chance to resolve our housing situation without crisis.

How Funds Will Be Used
  • Rent and housing-related costs
  • Transportation for medical follow-ups and daily needs
  • Basic living expenses such as groceries and utilities
  • Essential services to keep my small business functional so I can return to full-time work as recovery allows

Any support, whether through donations or sharing this campaign, makes a meaningful difference. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for helping my family get through this difficult chapter with stability and dignity.
