Michaela and Justin are my cousins, and they were blessed with the news that they were expecting a little bundle of joy in March.
In late June, they found out they were having a boy, and during an ultrasound, they discovered Michaela had some medical obstacles and was told she was at high risk.
Now comes the month of July. Michaela started bleeding and had to go back to the hospital. At 21 weeks, Michaela had already started dilating. The doctor made a rash decision to send her to Crouse Irving Hospital to be under their care until she was further along. On July 30, we were given news that Nana had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and only had a short time left with us. Justin and Michaela made a plea with the doctors at 25 weeks to come home and be with Nana for what she had left. Nana did not make it and passed away on August 31 at 3:49. Michaela had been through a lot through the week leading up to September 2.
On September 2, at 1:30 am, Michaela woke up to pains in her stomach. The pains were getting stronger, and Justin called the ambulance. They were rushed to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. By 6:20, Michaela and Justin delivered a little bundle of joy, Jaxson Roy Burns, weighing 2 lbs 9 oz and 15 inches long. Jaxson was rushed to Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse to the NICU until he meets milestones or possibly until November.
Michaela and Justin are asking for help so that they can drive to Syracuse to be with their son. Justin is a hardworking father of now two boys and needs to be home to work also, but a little bit of extra help can go a long way. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
