Our family is devastated—but we are also determined. Determined to stay hopeful, to stay together, and to show Michael the love and strength he’s always shown us.

My name is Jessica Cheffer, and I’m fundraising for my big brother, Michael Scott Beard, who has just been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. It has already spread to his brain, heart, and lymph nodes, and doctors have confirmed that we’re facing an incredibly serious and life-altering diagnosis.

This all happened so fast. It started with shoulder pain… then chest pain… and then hallucinations from the intensity. ER tests confirmed what none of us were ready to hear: cancer had not only taken hold in his lungs, but it had already spread throughout his body.

Why We're Asking for Help

Michael is a fighter—to say the very least. But this is a battle no one should have to face alone. We are raising funds to help with:

Medical bills

Comfort care needs

Support during treatment or end-of-life care

Time off work

Anything that eases his pain or brings peace

He has an amazing support team standing with him every step of the way—his Dad, Grammy, cousins, nieces, nephew, loving girlfriend, and dear friends. We’re all doing everything we can to lift him up through this, emotionally and physically.

We’ve lost many in our family, and through every heartbreak, Michael and I have always been there for each other. When we were growing up, if anyone ever picked on me (and that includes our brother Don, by the way—lol), Michael was always the one who stepped in to protect me. That’s just who he is—loyal, loving, and fiercely protective.

This fundraiser is about giving Michael dignity, love, and the support he deserves—whether it gives him a chance at treatment or simply surrounds him with comfort and peace.

Done with radiation on his brain. Waiting to see what is next for Michael.
