Help Michael with Medical Bills and Treatment

On January 16, 2018 Michael was driving when smoke suddenly came from under the hood. The light just turned red, he was in the far right lane of a well lit intersection. He pulled over, got in front of the truck to pop the hood and while doing so, a car driving at an estimated speed of 40 mph hit the back of his truck straight on. Michael’s face and knees took most of the impact and sent him flying into the intersection, the truck ricocheting all the way across the intersection. The paramedics and police arrived quickly. When the truck was hit, Michael was looking over the hood trying to pop it open. The truck hit his chin causing his teeth to go through his bottom lip, break his nose, and break his teeth. He was admitted into the hospital for a week as he underwent several operations. The hospital never conducted an MRI to check Michael’s brain or damage that may have occurred in his face. Since then he’s been to multiple dentists, ENT’s, primary cares, specialists, emergency care visits, and it was only until recently that he was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. Trigeminal neuralgia can be described as the most excruciating pain known to humanity. The pain typically involves the lower face and jaw, although sometimes it affects the area around the nose and above the eye. The intense stabbing, electric shock like pain is caused by irriation of the trigeminal nerve. The pain can be triggered by something as minor as brushing your teeth, wind, or eating. If left untreated, it will worsen overtime. Over the years as Michael’s medical problems have been untreated, his chronic pain has become unbearable.

As for the couple that hit Michael, there are several witnesses describing the male drive to appear to be under the influence. They were uninsured, so Michael walked away with zero compensation for an accident that was not his fault.

Michael works full time supporting our family and medical care is not doable right now, especially with the impact of the pandemic. He has thousands of dollars worth of medical debt that we cannot afford to pay, and treatment he needs from specialists and surgeons.
