My name is Michael. In 2006, a car accident left me paralyzed from the chest down. Since then, I have been bedridden and need help with every aspect of my life.

For almost two decades, there has been little change. Now, I have the opportunity to begin treatment using a device called ARC-EX.

ARC-EX is not surgery. It is a device that sits on the skin along the spine and sends electrical signals to help the brain connect and communicate with the body.

Even after a spinal cord injury, the brain still tries to send messages to the body to move. The problem is those messages can’t travel properly past the injured area.

While using the device, I will actively focus on trying to move reaching, lifting, or gripping. At the same time, the electrical stimulation helps the nerves become more responsive. It basically helps “wake up” the spinal cord and strengthen the signals that are already trying to get through.

With repetition and effort, this process can help the body build new connections allowing the signals from the brain to travel through the damaged area.

Clinical studies have shown that people living with long-term paralysis have regained strength and movement in their hands and arms using this therapy. It takes time and hard work. But even small improvements could give me more independence and a better quality of life. The limitations for the results are endless and life changing.

To begin treatment in the United States, I need $35000. Once I start, I will be able to continue using the device regularly to build on any progress as I will be able to use it at home with my caregivers.

After almost 20 years , I am asking for the chance to try.
