Hi, my name is Michael. I’m currently training to become a licensed therapist. I spend my days working for free at my internship, helping people through trauma, addiction, and mental health struggles.

A few months ago after finishing my shift, I was set up and carjacked in Aurora, Colorado.

A young woman approached me in a parking lot with a handful of groceries, asking for a quick ride just a mile away. I agreed, trying to be kind. When I got out of the car to help her, four gang members surrounded me. I was instantly overwhelmed; there was nothing I could do.

They stole everything:

• My car (stole back and found myself) they drove it extremely rough and left a smell blunts. 

• Two laptops with all my therapy notes, schoolwork, and documents.

• My phone, headphones, license, and debit card (they spent over $600 instantly)

• A gift bag full of baby gifts I had bought for a friend who just gave birth with a visa gift card in it. 

• Even slapped my glasses off my face and kept them. They were expensive glasses.

I was left standing there in complete shock, helpless, violated, and heartbroken. That one moment undid months of hard work. It was the worst experience I’ve ever been through.

The police report was filed, but Aurora PD are just so overwhelmed with all the crime I won’t get anything back. They did take finger prints and worked hard trying to help and I was very grateful for their hard work.

I hate asking for help. But this has truly wrecked me. I’ve worked so hard trying to better my life and help others. This blindsided me. And now I’m catching up still after the incident.
