Help Michael on his way back to a normal life

Mike, 58 and a German citizen, was a very healthy man until the 31st of January when he suffered a massive stroke in Juba, South Sudan where he had just started working. Due to insufficient medical facilities he was flown out to Nairobi, Kenya, as he was not in a condition to be transported to Europe directly. After immediate surgery to release pressure from the brain, Mike was kept in an induced coma for 3 weeks and spent 5 weeks in intensive care in Nairobi with his wife, Katharina, at his side as she had immediately flown to Nairobi to be with him. The medical care there is of a very high standard, but nevertheless, his severe condition required him to continue his medical treatment in Germany as only this could guarantee that he would receive the care that he needs to regain a healthy, normal life. After another 3 weeks in intensive care in Germany, Mike is currently in rehabilitation and will soon have to face further head surgery. Although Mike has health insurance that so far has covered the majority of costs, the couple, who hasn’t been able to see each other since 8 weeks, is facing major future expenses that won't be covered. Unfortunately, Mike and Katherina are not in a position to handle all the upcoming costs once the insurance support ends, as they have already used up all their savings and Katharina currently is unable to find work due to the current lockdown and economic difficulties associated with Covid-19. Katharina will also have to become Mike's full-time carer once he is released from hospital, so she won't be able to take on a full-time job. And the costs keep mounting - they face a major relocation as they used to live abroad, find and rent a new home and then cover further treatment and rehabilitation costs to help Mike to become himself and capable of taking up a job again. So even the smallest amount will help them to go on and re-organize their life that has been turned completely upside down. Thanks a lot!

Mike, 58 und deutscher Staatsbürger, war bis zum 31. Januar ein sehr gesunder Mann, als er in Juba im Südsudan, wo er gerade erst seine Arbeit aufgenommen hatte, einen schweren Schlaganfall erlitt. Aufgrund unzureichender medizinischer  Einrichtungen wurde er nach Nairobi, Kenia, geflogen, da er nicht in der Lage war, direkt nach Europa transportiert zu werden. Nach einer sofortigen Dekompressions-OP lag Mike 3 Wochen lang im künstlichen Koma und verbrachte 5 Wochen auf der Intensivstation in Nairobi mit seiner Frau Katharina an seiner Seite, die sofort nach Nairobi geflogen war. Die medizinische Versorgung dort ist von sehr hohem Standard, aber aufgrund seines kritischen Zustands musste Michael seine Behandlung in Deutschland fortsetzen, um zu garantieren, dass er die Versorgung erhalten würde, die er benötigt, um hoffentlich wieder in ein gesundes, normales Leben zurückzukehren. Nach weiteren 3 Wochen auf der Intensivstation in Deutschland befindet sich Mike derzeit in der Rehabilitation und muss sich bald einer weiteren Kopfoperation stellen. Obwohl Mike eine Krankenversicherung hat, die bisher den größten Teil der Kosten übernommen hat, steht das Paar, das sich seit 8 Wochen nicht sehen darf, vor großen zukünftigen Ausgaben, die nicht gedeckt sind. Zur Zeit sind Mike und Katherina nicht in der Lage, alle anstehenden Kosten zu tragen,  da sie bereits alle Ersparnisse aufgebraucht haben und Katharina aufgrund des derzeitigen Lock-down und der wirtschaftlichen Schwierigkeiten im Zusammenhang mit Covid-19 nur sehr schwer Arbeit finden kann. Sobald Mike aus der Rehabilitation entlassen wird, wird Katharina auch zunächst Mikes Vollzeitbetreuerin werden; dies stellt sie vor weitere Herausforderungen bezüglich der Arbeitssituation. Die Kosten und Ausgaben steigen kontinuierlich. Mike und Katharina werden einen aufwändigen Umzug durchführen lassen müssen, da sie vor dem tragischen Ereignis viele Jahre im Ausland gelebt haben. Die Miete für ein neues Zuhause muss bezahlt werden sowie weitere Behandlungs- und Rehabilitationskosten um Mike zu helfen, wieder er selbst zu werden und in der Zukunft auch wieder einen Job annehmen zu können.
