Any help is appreciated,
Hello, I am Maria Koski, and I'm reaching out to ask for your support for my husband Michael. Last year we had genetic testing done for our kids as we found they each had multiple lumps (Benign Tumors) like Mike did as a child and still has into adulthood. The genetic test revealed that the kids have a genetic marker that could progress into Gardener Syndrome Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP). This same genetic test revealed that Mike has the same genetic markers, and it has in fact progressed into the Gardener Syndrome FAP. With this condition he has undergone many surgeries throughout his life to remove multiple benign tumors before knowing there was a name for his condition. At the age of 33 (2024) he was recommended to have a colonoscopy, this revealed that his large intestine had over 2000 precancerous polyps. At this time, it was recommended by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester to have his Colon removed and have a permanent Ileostomy bag (Total Proctocolectomy). Now a short amount of time later he had some severe abdominal pain and was seen once again by the Mayo Clinic and was told he has over 20 tumors in his liver. At this time the Mayo Clinic is placing my husband on the transplant list for a liver. This process has been very demanding and taxing. This week alone he has 24 appointments to attend, including numerous consults and testing including bloodwork and CT scans.
With all this happening we are unfortunately not able to keep up with medical bills and medical supplies cost and are asking our friends and family for help. My husband in the meantime continues to try to stay active in the kid's life coaching hockey and playing baseball with them. He also attempts to maintain a healthy lifestyle by doing limited exercising at the local gym and nightly walks.
This support would assist with -
- Routine Screenings
- Specialized Procedures/Surgeries
- Post Surgery Care and Rehabilitation
- Long Term Health Monitoring
- Pharmacy Costs
- Medical Supplies
- lodging 5 weeks minimum (Per Mayo Clinic will need to be within 10 minutes of hospital.)
- Any time off work not covered
Every donation no matter the size, will make a huge difference in our ability to give my husband the care he needs to live a long healthy life. If you can't donate, sharing this with your friends and family would be incredibly helpful as well.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, your prayers, and for being a part of our journey. We truly appreciate you.
With Gratitude,
Maria, Michael, Santiago and Emilio Koski
