Help Michael Lanata recovery

At approximately 1:45 pm on January 29th, Michael Lanata  suffered severely debilitating injuries while riding his four wheeler with his girlfriend,  Michelle Nunn and 3 friends deep in the Buttgenbach Campground Croom Motorcycle Area.  While navigating down a steep hill, Mike was violently thrown over the handlebars and the 998 pound four wheeler landed directly on top of  him.  The rear fender crushed Mike’s pelvis and he sustained what is deemed a bilateral open book fracture of the pelvis.  What saved his life was the helmet which was also cracked by the immense weight.  

While quickly checking Mike’s vital signs, Michelle discovered thathe was bleeding from his pelvic area.  Thankfully emergency  operators were able to locate their remote location with the GPS on her phone.  After a long 45 minutes, 9 people carried Mike from the bottom of the hill on a gurney, through the woods, to where the ambulance was.  Paramedics accessed his injuries as life threatening due to the intense internal bleeding and immediately summoned a life flight helicopter.  From the time of the accident to the arrival of the helicopter, Mike had already been in unrelenting agony for over 2 hours.  He was flown to the Level 2 Trauma Center at Bayonet Point in Hudson, FL.
 

Since his arrival, Mike has undergone 2 of what will be many surgeries to come.  These first surgeries were to set the pelvic bones with rods, screws and plates to ensure that they do not pierce any other internal organs, all the while ensuring he remains heavily protected from COVID-19.

Due to the fact that Mike is located at a hospital 3.5 hours from hishome in Cape Coral, this Go Fund Me  will be used to defray the enormous cost of critical medical treatment he will require in order to walk again and enable his family to remain in the immediate area to support him during this long and arduous recovery.  As some of you know, Mike owns his own  home improvement business which requires a high level of physical capability and endurance.  This call for action comes with great humility and deference to all who help to support us during this emotionally overwhelming time.  There are no words to express our deepest gratitude to those friends on the scene who helped to expedite his rescue, fellow classmates and friends from  Glastonbury, CT , all those who are close to his family members and all who may be reading this plea for help.  Please know that whether you decide to leave your name with words of encouragement or remain anonymous - we are truly indebted to you for your contribution.

Lastly My family and I will continually post Mike’s progress from    this Go Fund Me post so that you can all stay apprised of this long recovery journey.
