Help Michael Honor His Father's Memory after GSR Tragedy
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
My name is Becka, and with a heavy heart, I’m writing on behalf of my cousin Michael, who is grieving the sudden and tragic loss of his father, my uncle Angel, who was killed in the Grand Sierra Resort shooting in Reno on July 28, 2025.
The shooting occurred around 7:25 a.m. in the valet parking area. A gunman opened fire on a group of people and ambushed a vehicle in the north parking lot. Our uncle was one of the victims who sadly died at the scene. Authorities responded quickly and took the suspect into custody.
Just to clarify, Angel was not an employee of the Grand Sierra Resort. He was visiting that morning, something he enjoyed doing after his overnight shifts. He often stopped for a cup of coffee to unwind. It was a simple part of his routine, and tragically, that peaceful moment placed him at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Angel came from a large, loving family, one of eleven siblings and the second oldest. He was the kind of brother who offered advice and encouragement throughout life, always reminding his siblings to keep going, stay strong, and move forward with heart.
He had a lifelong passion for cooking, just like many of his brothers, and spent over three decades working in restaurants and casinos throughout Reno/Sparks. He appreciated life’s simple joys: going to the movies, enjoying a cup of coffee after a long graveyard shift, and being surrounded by those he loved.
Angel was looking forward to retiring this November so he could care for his 88-year-old mother. He had just received his passport and was excited to take a long-overdue trip to Tijuana to reunite with his youngest brother, whom he hadn’t seen in over 15 years.
Most of all, Angel was a devoted father and grandfather. His son Michael and grandson were his heart.
Any donation, share, or kind message means more than words can say. Thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts during this incredibly painful time.
With gratitude and love,
Becka
