In 1987, I was involved in an industrial accident that resulted in the loss of my right arm. Over the years, I’ve faced many ups and downs, but about three years ago, things took a turn for the worse. While walking my dog, I fell and landed directly on the end of my arm. I went to the doctor right away, which started a two-year journey of pain, infection, and uncertainty. At one point, I was so desperate that I had to drain the infection myself, and I truly believe that act saved my life.
After that, my doctor found a surgeon in the Bay Area who was willing to help, since the local hospital told me I should just 'learn to live with it.' UCSF got me in almost immediately, and I finally started to feel some hope. That was about nine months ago. Unfortunately, a few months back, my arm started feeling strange again, and now it’s become painfully inflamed and swollen. I’m facing more trips back and forth to the Bay Area, and the costs have really added up.
I’ve accumulated a substantial amount of debt over the last year just trying to keep up with medical bills, travel, and basic needs. I’m hoping for some support to help me get caught up, cover gas and food for my trips, and, if possible, afford a place to stay during my next surgery instead of having to drive back right after. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any help you can offer.
