Help Michael Acquire and Support a PTSD Service Dog

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Michael Kessler. I’ve dedicated my career to public safety, serving as a law enforcement officer, civilian crime scene investigator, and also as a defense contractor in combat zones. Today, I’m reaching out to ask for your support in acquiring a PTSD service dog—an essential companion that will help me manage the trauma I’ve experienced throughout my diverse and challenging career.

My Journey:
My professional path has taken me from investigating crime scenes and providing forensic analysis to supporting critical operations in high-threat environments. Throughout my service, I encountered significant dangers and traumatic situations that have left lasting emotional impacts. As a result, I now face challenges related to debilitating PTSD, including anxiety, hypervigilance, and nightmares.

I deeply respect and admire the sacrifices made by veterans, and while I served as a private contractor, my experiences in high-stress environments have significantly affected my mental health. Unfortunately, my status has limited my access to many resources that are available to traditional veterans, leaving me to navigate this journey largely on my own.

Why a Service Dog:
A PTSD service dog can make a life-changing difference in my recovery. These specially trained dogs provide emotional support and help mitigate symptoms associated with PTSD. They are trained to perform specific tasks, such as providing a calming presence during anxiety attacks, interrupting nightmares, and creating a sense of safety in overwhelming situations. Having a service dog will not only aid my daily life but also empower me to regain control over my mental health and well-being.

How You Can Help:
I am aiming to raise $35,000 to cover the costs of acquiring, training, veterinary care, and insurance for a PTSD service dog. Your support, no matter how small, will help me take this crucial step toward healing. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing my story with others who might resonate with my journey.

Here’s how your support will directly contribute to acquiring, training, and caring for a PTSD service dog, ensuring they’re equipped to provide vital assistance every step of the way:
1. Service Dog Acquisition and Training
• Custom training to assist with PTSD-specific tasks (e.g., grounding, interrupting anxiety episodes)
• Socialization and task refinement to ensure the dog adapts well to various environments
• Costs associated with the trainer’s expertise and certification
2. Veterinary Care
• Routine exams, vaccinations, and preventative care
• Emergency funds for unexpected health issues
• Specialized veterinary care as needed for long-term health and support
3. Insurance and Liability Coverage
• Liability insurance to cover any unforeseen incidents while working in public
• Specialized health insurance tailored for service dogs to manage healthcare costs
4. Essential Gear and Supplies
• Service dog vest and identification materials
• High-quality harness, leashes, and other equipment for daily tasks
• Crate, bedding, and training tools for home support
5. Ongoing Training and Support
• Continued training sessions to keep skills sharp and adapt to any changing needs
• Access to training resources or group support for service dog handlers
• Occasional refresher courses to strengthen task performance

Thank you for your kindness and generosity—it truly means the world to me.
