Help Michael come home after wrongful conviction

Michael Buehner was 24 years old on January 10, 2002, 20 years ago, when he was indicted for a crime he did not commit. A crime that the State of Ohio knowingly withheld evidence that proved his innocence. Michael has fought every day for his freedom. It’s time for Michael to come home.

Although it took nearly 21 years to the day, Michael Buehner successfully was found NOT GUILTY at his re-trial of this case on July 19, 2023. Mr. Buehner was originally tried in June 2002, and was convicted when the State of Ohio withheld key evidence from his defense team. Starting in July 2014, Michael began his quest to have his conviction thrown out and to restore his name without this conviction. After multiple appeals and delays, Michael went to trial again on July 10, 2023. During the re-trial witnesses testified about being influenced by the Police and Prosecutor back in 2002 during the original trial. Additionally, other witnesses testified about evidence that has been destroyed despite being in the custody of the Cuyahoga County Prrosecutor's Office of the Cleveland Police Department. The complete lack of evidence against Michael, coupled with the defense witness who stated she witnessed the murder and Michael was not present, led the jurors to be able to find Michael NOT GUILTY in less than 2 hours of deliberation.

Now, with his freedom completely restored, Michael is working to rebuild his life and relationships after spending more than 20 years in custody. All donations will help Michael get housing and all necessities that he lacks after being in prison for 20 years. All donations are greatly appreciated!
