Michael, my brother, has lived with cerebral palsy since he was very young. He’s endured multiple surgeries on his legs and back, and despite being told he wouldn’t live past 30, he’s now 53. Michael attends physical therapy twice a week to maintain circulation in his legs and prevent infection. He’s always been determined to keep going, even when things are tough.

Public housing in Louisville is a challenge, and his rent keeps rising while his social security stays the same. After paying his bills, he’s left with very little each month. Our family helps as much as we can, but extra needs like a motorized wheelchair and a wheelchair ramp are extremely difficult to cover. Michael needs a wheelchair ramp at his residence to maintain his independence and continue attending physical therapy.

The funds raised will go toward constructing a wheelchair ramp, including concrete work from the ramp to the sidewalk, and two small ramp pieces for easier access from his front door to the porch and from the porch to the landing. Every day, Michael is in pain but keeps pushing forward. He wants to control his own mobility and go to the store near his home. He has depended on friends and neighbors for access to the outside world, and this ramp will give him greater independence and confidence to maintain his physical therapy and muscular development goals.
