Help Michael Avoid Double Amputation
Donation protected
My name is Susan and I am asking the community for their help in funding my son's medical expense. His name is Michael and he was born with a genetic bone disorder in his lower legs. He has been through 6 reconstructive surgeries that resulted in an ankle fusion on his right ankle, as well as an prosthetic joint replacement on his left ankle. Michael has had 4 reconstructions on his right leg, and 2 on his left leg.
One of these surgeries also required a bone and cartilage plug to be removed from his knee and swapped into his ankle joint, in order to promote growth and healing in the lost bone parts within his ankle joint. This surgery was unsuccessful and resulted in his right knee also now having severe issues too, making his situation that much worse.
The surgeries have left him with severe nerve damage and the inability to walk normally. He has seen many of the country's best doctors, specifically those at the Cleveland Clinic.
Amputation is an option, however, removal of one side of his lower leg will result in the opposite side not being able to bare the weight. It was recommended that both sides receive amputation, or, that he endures the pain and immobility.
Michael has opted to endure the best he can, but during this period in his life, he naturally gained extra weight as a result of not being able to walk normally. It is possible that the pain factor will substantially decrease, if he can reduce his weight as much as possible. Every pound counts toward reducing the weight on his prosthetic joint replacement, as well as the excessive joint and nerve damage in both of his legs.
Since he cannot walk or perform much of any cardio at all, and his legs are quickly deteriorating, we have a small window of time to reduce his weight enough to stop his ankle joint and lower legs from sustaining more natural deterioration over the next year.
Ozempic now seems to cost about $897 for a 3 month supply. His insurance will not cover this now that he is on Disability and unable to cover the injection costs.
We are asking for $3000 to cover a 9 month supply, which should be sufficient enough to make a great difference in helping him reduce his weight as much as possible. We plan to order from one of the online medical services, (Hims), or one of a similar quality.
Please consider donating to help Michael save his future mobility and to help him avoid a double lower leg amputation. He hasn't given up this entire time and fights through excessive nerve pain and microfractures in his joint areas. We are hoping that you also help him fight this by helping pay for these weight loss injections that we believe can greatly reduce the potential for more fractures and more pain, due to his weight increasing over time.
We cannot thank you enough for any help you can provide. God Bless and thank you again for any support offered.
