Our dear friends Michael and Heather need our help.
We all know they are incredible conservationists and contribute with the incredible work they do with Blue Whales to mitigate the acceleration of climate change, yet hurricanes make no distinction and Helen has hit their home hard.
In Michael’s words:
“we’ve got 29 inches (8 and a half meters) of rain and our river rose an unheard of 27 plus feet.
Our home is 25 and a half feet above the river, so our basement and vehicles got flooded.
We are fine. All cell towers knocked down as winds were 100 miles per hour. We wont have any power for at least 2 more weeks. Our land is a devastation zone, gardens under 2 or more feet of mud, garden lovely cabin destroyed. Trees in area are down literally by the thousands with at least 6 big ones down on our land. It is not easy to come to where I am now where I can get minimal service, but I will try to come again in 2 days.
Many locally lost their homes, vehicles floated away, and dozens did not survive.
I will not be able to read any responses for at least 2 days.
Finally our spirits and strength are fine but this is not easy.
We are cooking on a camping stove and have ample gas canisters. It's still warm enough so we don't need heat, but have lots of firewood and our trusty wood stove.
Love to all, Michael and Heather”
