This GoFundMe has been created to help ease the financial burden of medical expenses during this unimaginable time. His parents have been out of work since the accident and have diminished all of their PTO. All funds will be used to help this family pay for all medical expenses. Any amount, no matter how small, is a huge blessing!!!
Update 6/15/25:
Update from mom, Last Monday, treatment was started on his lungs using doxycycline, run through the 2 new chest tubes to irritate his lungs so they would stick to the chest wall. More swelling on his head now. Michael also has double pneumonia so he will receive more antibiotics. Today (Sunday June 15), chest tubes 5 & 6 have been removed. They will be doing an x-ray and hopefully remove the neck collar. Will try to take him outside for a while. Sometime next week they are planning to do surgery on the brain flap. Plese keep him in your prayer's, he is still very week. Thank you to all that has supported him!
Update 6/3/25:
Last couple days have been better. Michael is making improvements on his breathing. They started him on tray food with the ventilator still on (he is the 2nd person the doctor has ever seen eat while on the ventilator). He has a fever this morning, but they are hoping to bring his ventilator numbers up they will put him in a trach collar. They removed all his chest tubes, and he is sitting up in his wheelchair about 2-4 hours a day to help strengthening his lungs!! He still has no movement in his legs and hands, but his brain seems to be normal!! He passed the swallowing test yesterday. Wendy wants to thank everyone for their continued support and prayers!!
Update 5/27/25:
Michael is still fighting, with no changes. They had to go in and put another chest tube in the left side due to a tear in his left lung. He is responsive, agitated and very discouraged. Please pray for his mom, who has not left his side in all this!!!
Update 5/21/25:
This past week has been a hard one. Michael has coded again around 8:00 Monday night. They worked really hard to get him stable and he almost coded again at 4 am. After hours of poking and prodding, yesterday they put a new trachea in. Doctors came in this morning and are going to start cutting his vent down and try to get him off the ventilator. Still a very long road ahead. Please keep praying for him and his family!!!
Update 5/13/25:
Michael is still in the STICU. His vitals are still fluctuating; they are worse at night. His lungs still have pneumonia, but he is on an antibiotic. Also, he is on medications for blood clots, and anxiety. He is alert and aware of what is going on and people in the room. He is nodding when asked questions. He has no mobility in his lower body, he is able to move his arms, but he has no mobility in his hands. They will be inserting a tracia tube soon. Please continue to pray for this family. They all have a long hard road to travel but thank god, it will be traveled!
5/4/2025
Michael (age 19) was in a horrible car accident on May 3, 2025, in North Carolina. He was driving with a friend and lost control of his car. The car rolled 3 times, leaving him buckled in upside down. His friend managed to get out of the car with no injuries, pulling Michael out and running back up to the road to flag someone down for help.
Luckily the 1st car that came up was a U-Haul truck with a firefighter in the passenger seat. 911 was called and help was on the way.
On the way to the hospital, Michael flatlined and he flatlined again at the hospital. Michael is in critical condition. He has severe brain trauma; the back of his head, which was crushed due to the car flipping. They removed the bone fragments out and now he has an open spot which will require another surgery to cover the open wound and add a metal plate.
On Sunday May 4th, Michael had surgery on his spinal cord (C5) from the front of his neck. Michael could possibly be paralyzed from the waist down. However, if the back of his head would not have been crushed in the wreck, it would have put more pressure on his C5, doing even more damage. He is currently on a ventilator.
Michael will need extensive rehabilitation for a while, not knowing the outcome of his brain function. His parents are with him at the hospital.
Please help this family with whatever you can, during this awful time. No parent should have to go through this. All help and donations will go to the parents to help towards medical bills, stay for them since hospital is over an hour away (only one person is allowed to be in the room with Michael), transportation to and from the hospital.
This is going to be a long journey, we are all praying for positive outcome and a speedy recovery!!!
Any amount will help and be appreciated!
