For Micah’s son, this fundraiser comes from a place no parent ever wants to be in. At just 1 year and 4 months old, Micah’s son attended a children’s event in Darien, Connecticut with his family, expecting a fun and joyful day. Instead, while waiting several minutes to interact with a Muppet puppeteer, the family felt that he was treated differently and overlooked because of the color of his skin. What should have been a happy memory became a painful and heartbreaking moment for Micah and the family. After stepping aside and recording part of what happened, Micah shared the video online, never expecting it to reach so many people. Since then, it has been viewed more than 1 million times, and the family has received an outpouring of support, encouragement, and understanding.
This fundraiser is not about asking for pity. Micah simply wants to turn this difficult moment into a beautiful memory for his son. The hope is to use the support from this fundraiser to take him and the family to Disney World, where he can experience the joy, magic, and excitement every child deserves. More than anything, Micah wants this little boy to be surrounded by love and reminded that one hurtful experience does not define who he is or what the world can hold for him. If you feel moved to give, thank you from the bottom of Micah’s heart. If donating is not possible, sharing this fundraiser or sending love and encouragement means just as much.
