Help Micah's Fight Against Stage 3 Cancer
Donation protected
Micah is 11 years old. He was born with a congenital heart defect on November 6, 2013. He underwent surgery to repair the defect, and it was not successful. He was then placed on an external BiVAD called a Berlin Heart. This pumped his blood for him and kept him alive while he waited on a heart transplant. Seven months later, a heart was found for Micah, and he started his second chance at life.
Fast forward to November 2024. Micah developed a fever and swelling in his neck. He was treated for strep, but his swollen lymph nodes persisted and grew. Micah was sent to ultrasound, then followed by CT scans of his lymph system. Finally, he was sent for a biopsy, which revealed Micah has Hodgkin's Lymphoma. His PET scan revealed he has stage 3 with his spleen involved.
Micah is undergoing chemotherapy at the University of Pittsburgh Children's Hospital, over 2 hours from his home in Elk Garden, West Virginia.
While this cancer is treatable, there is a delicate balance of treating it and avoiding him going into rejection. This involves not only chemotherapy but mid-cycle labs, transplant clinic visits, and the potential for multiple heart catheterizations.
Funds raised would be used to support Micah and his family in this new fight, help pay for travel expenses, lodging, and food while away from home, and household bills as both parents are reduced working to care for him. Any abundance would be paid forward to further fund PTLD and childhood cancer.
