Help Micah Jr with medical expenses due to Cancer

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Darlene Scott. I live in Orlando, Florida. I'm the mother to 7 children (3 adopted) and grandmother to two. I’ve created this GoFundMe for my son, Micah Jr and my husband, Micah Sr.

On Oct 4, 2023 Micah Sr had a minor surgical procedure that required an overnight stay in the hospital. The next day, he was cleared to be discharged and while getting dressed he collapsed and fell, face forward, hitting his head on the corner of a wall. He had completely lost consciousness. After much testing, it was discovered that he had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot) in his lung. This required him to be in ICU and critical care for about 2 weeks following his initial procedure. He had to get another surgery (Thrombectomy) during his stay and had to do an additional week in rehab afterwards. As a result of his trauma, he had to learn to walk again and today, still suffers from dizzy spells. He now has to take daily blood thinners to make sure something like this will not occur again, and unfortunately his insurance does not fully cover this medication. Seeing the rock of our home go through this was rough on the entire family. Being self employed, my business took a serious hit. After this ordeal, our savings were gone. Through it all, we were thankful for Micah’s health and recovery. We could have lost him. On October 28th (21 days after the initial procedure) Micah finally returned home. He still had some barriers to get through, but we were so thankful to have him back home.

On November 4th, Micah Jr. ,who was living in Las Vegas at the time, called home and said he was having shortness of breath and pain in his left shoulder. Thinking it was asthma, he went to the ER to get checked out. After a weekend of testing, we got news that would forever shift our lives. On November 5th, our daughter, Michal, who was with him at the time, called home and told us that the Doctors had confirmed that it was Cancer. Micah was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma Leukemia. On November 7th, with the help of our amazing family and friends, my daughter, Jasmine, granddaughter, and I prepared to fly to Las Vegas. Micah Sr. Would have to stay home in Florida to recover as he was not cleared to be able to fly. We did not know what the next steps would be but we knew we needed to get to Las Vegas. Not being aware of how things would go, we planned to go get Micah and bring him back for treatment in Florida. What we thought would be a one week trip , ended up being a 6 week long ordeal. We found out that bringing him back to Florida would not be possible. He was unable to travel due to the size of the tumor that had grown in his chest. It was pressing on his heart, lungs, and esophagus. The tumor was causing fluid to leak in and around his lungs, which is what was making it so difficult for him to breathe. He had to immediately have the fluid drained from around his lungs, so that he could breath. Because of the location of the mass, his lungs were refilling back up with fluid within days. If he hadn’t of gone to the hospital when he did, the Doctors told us that things could have been a lot worse. He had to have the fluid removed from around his lungs multiple times during his stay so that he could breath (Thoracentesis). On November 17th, Micah Jr endured a 5 hour long open heart surgery to remove what we learned was a 15lb tumor from his chest . It had been growing for years, unnoticed. By the grace of God, the Drs had removed 90% of the mass. Micah would have to continue with chemo to have the rest removed. After his surgery, he went from Oncology to Cardiac ICU, to Critical Care ICU to mid-care ICU and then to Oncology ward again, where he spent the last 4weeks of his 6 week stay in the hospital. He started his first round of chemo on Dec.1st. He lost over 60lbs during his stay. Micah was discharged from the hospital on December 15th. On Dec 18th, we flew back to Orlando to be able to begin the journey to remission. The holidays were definitely different for us this past year, but once again, we were thankful for his health and trust God in this journey. Micahs life was obviously turned upside down by everything thats happened. To have just turned 24, with a great job, and a full life ahead of him, he took the news, just as well as anyone would expect. He has kept such a great attitude, and has put his trust in God through it all. We’re so proud of him and admire his strength through this process. As you can see, Micah had a head full of hair and had been growing his locs for years. The day after Christmas, he decided it was time to cut his hair. It had become painful to still have. Plenty of tears have been shed through this journey, but we are so thankful for his life. A couple days after Christmas, he underwent the procedure to have his port placed to begin Chemo. Unfortunately the mass in his chest had left a mark, and he still had fluid building up in his lungs. And to add to that, his chemo was being delayed due to insurance issues because of the transfer of treatment. After undergoing another thoracentesis, to remove the fluid, he was finally able to continue chemo. This process has had it’s ups and downs, but today, Micah is doing so much better. We are currently approaching cycle 5 of 6 and expenses are adding up daily. Being the caretaker for both my husband and our son has been a blessing because I would not want them taken care of by anyone else. However; we are struggling financially. I have not been able to work full time since October, and though I have started working again, catching up on bills has been extremely difficult.

This GoFundMe will go towards Micah Jrs medical expenses ,medications, and supplements that were/are not covered by his insurance and his daily care. He will have to go through physical therapy, scans, tests, and he will need to allow his body time to repair itself after the chemo. We don't want him trying to go back to work while he’s recovering to cover these expenses, nor do we want him coming out of this in extreme medical debt.

We trust God for total healing. We also know that life has to continue as he goes through these next phases of dealing with awful sickness.

We thank you in advance for your support through this journey. We, the Scott family appreciate every seed sown. I will keep this page updated throughout our journey.
