Help Micah Go For Gold!
Micah Winkle, a 16 year old cancer survivor and USA Paraclimbing National Champion, needs your help to compete in the 2021 Paraclimbing World Championships in Moscow, Russia!
Micah was 9 years old when he was diagnosed with an aggressively spreading childhood cancer. He had a primary tumor in his left hip, secondary tumors forming on his leg and a rib, and lesions across his pelvis and up his spine. Only 1 in 5 children survive this. Micah underwent a year of treatment, including 20+ rounds of chemo and multiple surgeries to remove his femur and replace his hip. With the help of the amazing doctors and staff at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Micah is now cancer-free!
It took Micah a year to walk without crutches and he faced tremendous pain and adversity due to the results of cancer treatment. All contact sports were off-limits. But Micah found a home at Memphis Rox, a climbing gym in South Memphis. Climbing brought opportunities for emotional and physical healing and Micah found ways to modify his climbing around the disabilities that cancer left him with. For the first time in years, Micah began to thrive.
This past summer Micah won the USA Paraclimbing National Championship and earned a spot on Team USA as a paraclimber. He now has the opportunity to compete in the World Championships and represent the United States!
