Hi, my name’s Micah, and I’m in my 20s living with end-stage kidney disease. I’m doing the work-up to try achieve a transplant! Somehow, someway.
In January 2025, my life took a dramatic turn. I was rushed to hospital and things got pretty crazy. Thankfully, I was saved by an incredible medical team and placed on dialysis, an exhausting and time-consuming treatment that filters my blood because my kidneys no longer can - ultimately keeping me alive.
Since then, life has been a constant cycle of hospital visits, appointments, medication, and learning on the job to get healthy enough to get by. Dialysis is not a cure - it just ensures I stay alive until I can get a kidney transplant.
But here’s the catch: the public transplant waitlist is 3-6+ years long…
That’s why I’ve launched this GoFundMe. I’m trying to raise enough money to:
• transplantation associated costs
• Cover medical costs that aren’t fully covered, including specialist care, testing, medications, and procedures
• Pay for transport, accommodation, and aftercare needed for the transplant process
• See if private health care/insurance will help lessen wait time
• Support myself now & during recovery when I won’t be able to work
My ultimate goal is to ONE day get back to good health and go out and live a full, normal life again. When that comes, I’m so excited to recover from the operation and to be able to travel, work, feel good, and live life again.
There’s no guarantee the kidney will come sooner this way… but we’re giving it a red hot crack! Why not right? Worst case it’ll help the cause and I’m eternally grateful to have such amazing people around me.
Please don’t feel obligated to give at all —just putting it out into the universe, raising awareness for chronic illness, and help support during this unique time.
I was initially hesitant to launch into public as I prefer to remain private during this time, but from encouragement from a few people who helped collaborate and run this, there’s so many great people out there! Thank you so much to everyone!
Messaging, encouraging, following my socials, even donating… I’m blown away.
Yours, in good health to come,
Micah
