Follow Mia and her journey on “The Insta” (I think the kids call it).
This is my grand daughter, Mia. She has been diagnosed with Poly Micro Gyrea (it took me three months to remember that) and, subsequently, Cerebral Palsy. This photo is during a training session in a piece of equipment that trains her to walk. She works incredibly hard, but still smiles through it. I mean, it’s not really even fair for me to post a picture of her beautiful face. Please forgive me. She is an inspiration to all of us.
Her parents are committed to getting the best care available for her. As a result, Mia has travelled to North Carolina, twice, two
in her home state if Florida, and to Los Angeles for one and two-week intensive therapies, with several more scheduled for next year.
As you might imagine, the expenses, just for her daily care (in-home therapies, full time caregiver, medications, etc.) are phenomenal, and the cost of these items are big. The frames have to be upgraded as she grows, depending on he ability. Hopefully, she will learn what she needs to know with continued home-use of these machines.
During Mia’s therapy at NAPA in Los Angeles, the team, there, used custom equipment from Rifton. Www.rifton.com which led Mia to amazing improvements including taking her first steps, with help.
Mia needs two specific pieces of equipment. A Rifton Pacer chair, (that looks like a gymnast’s training apparatus) and a Pacer gait trainer that trains Mia to walk.
Her therapists will work with Mia’s parents to design the equipment and order it customized to her specific training needs.
Now, Mia’s parents are not poor. My son and his wife, Anna, both make a good living. They could probably afford this equipment (insurance will not cover it), but they’ve asked us to help so here I am. This request is made simply to try to help out. If you have a few dollars you can spare, together, we can put a smile on the faces of the whole family for Christmas and amaze them with some love from friends, but only if you can afford it, easily, and would like to help.
Thank you.
UPDATES
Mia’s chair order has been prepared with the guidance of her physical therapists. She will be measured for the “Gait Trainer” on January 7 and will be referred to a therapist in Miami who can work with her on that apparatus. The final delivery of the equipment might take up to 3 months, but we’ll keep you posted. Meanwhile, if you’re so inclined, please share our fundraiser with your audience. Amazingly, we’re already at almost 1/3 of our goal. If you could share this with your group, we’d appreciate it.
Thank you
