Help Mia Tackle Global Challenges at Leiden University

After two long years of working, getting my associates degree and waiting here in Chicago, I am finally off to University!

I have been accepted into Leiden University, The Hague, Netherlands Honors Program called "Global Challenges".

I will be living squarely in the Hague's city center and am leaving to begin this journey on August 16, 2024!

Me and 299 other lucky students have been accepted into this international program with a 25% acceptance rate.

We are from all over the world and will be focusing on different global challenges in order to actively change the world around us.

Our program studies include: Culture, History and Society; International Justice, World Politics; Earth, Energy and Sustainability; Governance, Economics and Development and Global Public Health.

I plan to gather a bit from each field, primarily focusing on those related to sociology and anthropology but maintaining flexibility to diversify my career path.

My main goal is to work within sustainability or diplomacy to bring solutions to our increasingly devastating world.

Unfortunately, despite qualifying for the financial aid amount in the following GoFundMe fundraiser, my FAFSA verification arrived many months too late to Leiden. Sadly after the aid they were able to provide dried up.

So I am now -along with my work study job, personal loan, and savings from several jobs I have worked and am currently working- gathering funds to help me pay for my first of three years at University abroad.

This fundraiser will help me pay for my rent the Netherlands as an international student and help me buy the basics for the studio apartment allotted to me through this program.

Many friends and family have extended love and support to me and my family since we abruptly moved here to Chicago from Madrid, Spain during the pandemic.

I am eager to pay it forward and do my very best in this exciting new phase. Your love and support has and will accompany me as I grow into my best self.
