Mia is a 5-year-old indoor cat who has been hospitalized since yesterday with a serious urinary emergency. The doctors first tried to place a catheter, then performed a cystoscopy, but unfortunately that did not work either. At this point, the next step is surgery to try to place a catheter. If that still does not work, the doctors may need to remove part of the urethra causing the blockage, which could lead to long-term complications like incontinence and a lower quality of life. After many tears and long conversations with the veterinarian about Mia’s condition and our financial situation, we decided to move forward with surgery to give her the best chance possible. The doctor later found that he was able to squeeze a small amount of urine from her bladder, so Mia is now resting overnight to recover and see if the blockage may improve on its own. The cause of the stricture is still unknown and could be swelling or a stone that cannot be seen on x-rays. We will be reassessing her condition tomorrow and deciding on the next steps from there. Mia means everything to us, and we are not ready to give up on her when there is still a chance she can recover and have a good life ahead of her. She has already needed anesthesia, x-rays, ultrasounds, and a cystoscopy, and she may still need surgery, medications, and additional hospitalization. The costs are adding up quickly. I am unable to work right now because of my own medical conditions, so my boyfriend has been carrying the full financial burden while doing everything he can to help Mia. でも、私たちはすぐに諦めるという決断をすることができませんでした。たくさん悩んだ末、ミアにできる限りのチャンスを与えたいと思い、まずはカテーテルを入れられるかどうか、手術をしてみようということになりました。
その後、先生からミアの膀胱から少量の尿を出すことができたとの報告があり、今晩は一旦ミアを休ませてあげて、様子を見ることになりました。
尿道が狭くなっている原因はまだ分かっておらず、炎症による腫れの可能性もあれば、レントゲンでは確認できない結石などが原因の可能性もあります。
明日もう一度ミアの状態を確認し、今後の治療について判断する予定です。
ミアは私たちにとって本当に大切な家族です。まだ回復できる可能性がある限り、私たちは諦めたくありません。元気になって、これからも一緒に過ごしていけることを願っています。
