Help Mia Fight Leukemia!

This donation page is for our sweet Mia Aguilar, who was recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) on May 21st. Esta página de donaciones es para nuestra dulce Mia Aguilar, quien recientemente fue diagnosticada con leucemia linfoblástica aguda el 21 de mayo.

After being sick on and off for a month, her pediatrician ran blood work on Wednesday afternoon. Thursday at 4 a.m., her mom, Elizabeth, received a call to rush Mia to the ER for additional, immediate testing. These initial tests strongly suggested leukemia, and a bone marrow test on Friday confirmed it. As of now, her two-year treatment plan includes five sessions of chemotherapy. To know Mia, and this family, is to know joy. She is kind, thoughtful, silly, cheeky and smart. She's a devoted student — both as a first-grader at Herbert Marcus Elementary and as a follower of TikTok dances. She out-dances, out-shines her adult family members on a daily basis, and we love her for it. We can't wait to see her shine, school us all and return to a cancer-free, joy-full childhood. Conocer a Mia y a su familia es conocer la felicidad. Es una niña buena, cariñosa, chistosa e inteligente. Es muy buena para la escuela — de primer grado en Herbert Marcus Elementary — y también para los bailes de TikTok. Ella supera a su familia en el baile diariamente — y la queremos por eso. Esperemos que llegue el día en que Mia nos vuelva superar con sus bailes estupendos y libre de cáncer.

Mia made Elizabeth Aguiñaga, a Gifted and Talented Dallas ISD teacher at David G. Burnet Elementary School, and Edgar Aguilar parents for the first time almost eight years ago. She made Andrea, a DISD teacher at Herbert Marcus, and Jaime Aguiñaga first-time grandparents — and has made us all laugh, made our lives full ever since. It's been the joy of their family's lives to watch Liz and Edgar grow as parents and partners and then parents again, as they welcomed their second child, Liv just a year-and-a-half later, making Mia a big sister. Hace ocho años, Mia nació, haciendo padres a Elizabeth Aguiñaga, una maestra de niños talentosos y brillantes de DISD en David G. Burnet Elementary School, y Edgar Aguilar por primera vez. Hizo abuelos a Andrea, otra maestra de DISD en Herbert Marcus, y a Jaime Aguinaga — y nos ha hecho a todos nosotros reir desde entonces. Un año y medio después, Liz y Edgar tuvieron a Liv, haciendo a Mia la hermana mayor. 

Mia will begin her treatment on Monday, May 24. Please join us in praying for Mia and the Aguiñaga-Aguilar Family, and, if you are able, supporting them through this challenging time.
