Sustaining the Art of Opera
Our goal is to grow our outreach and education efforts to make lasting connections with our community and to foster the love of music and opera, especially for the next generation. Although the enjoyment of music is priceless, the cost of renting performance and rehearsal spaces, event insurance, printing music and programs, hiring musicians, and other logistics can really add up. We hope to decrease our overhead so that our outreach and education efforts, and the scope of our work, can reach a larger audience. This is why we've set a goal of $10,000.
Our most visible outreach initiatives this season can be seen by attending one of our concerts (outlined in more detail below). In addition to our performances, we also:
- Collaborate with Culture for One by providing voice lessons and mentorship to children in foster care
- Partner with The Metropolitan Opera Education Department for the fall and spring educational Open Houses, as well as opera “Talk-Back” panels with students after opera dress rehearsals
- Educate young students with delightful “Opera Ambushes,” which have been seen at Castle Bridge Elementary and The Lighthouse Guild
- Perform in fundraisers for other nonprofits, such as the Show Me Your Heart Foundation.
Outreach Concerts with Met Chorus Artists, Inc.
Met Chorus Artists, Inc. has an exciting spring season planned. Please join us at one of our concerts!
- The first concert of the year will be “Women in Opera” at Brick Presbyterian Church in Manhattan on March 20th, 2025. This has been a light season for our fabulous Met Opera Sopranos and Altos, and we want to highlight our wealth of talent and artistry by showcasing the flexibility and range of colors of the female voice.
- After the success of our Spring Sing last year, we are returning to The Reformed Church of Bronxville in New York for our Second Annual Spring Sing on April 6th, 2025. This concert will feature some of your favorite opera selections and the best part: audience participation. Come sing with us!
- For our music and history lovers near Beacon, NY, we will be singing at the Howland Chamber Music Circle on May 4th, 2025. This program will feature Whitney George, Composer and Lecturer, who will walk the audience through the history of opera. We will be providing music examples to help illustrate performance practice, musical style, and maybe an anecdote or two. There will be a matinee performance geared towards the younger crowd, and an evening performance for opera lovers of all ages!
We have some additional concerts and initiatives in the works, including a new, exciting partnership with Sing For Your Seniors and a collaboration with the Salon 58 Music Salon Series. Follow the Met Opera Chorus on social media and check out our website to stay up to date with our latest news!
